On 16 July, the Office of Rail and Road launched its Annual Report of Health and Safety Performance on Britain’s Railways. Its primary message was that Britain’s railway remains one of the safest in Europe for passengers but warns that the rate of improvement has shown signs of slowing. Ian Prosser, ORR Director of Safety and HM Chief Inspector of Railways led a group of 60 industry guests and key note speaker Lillian Greenwood, MP through the report.
He concluded his presentation by focusing on the need to recognise the importance of occupational health and mental health in relation to staff.
As he expanded on this, he touched on the “great” work done by the industry and Ian Stevens in the suicide prevention arena, a point that Lillian Greenwood had also touched on earlier.
