On Thursday 14th March, Network Rail and Samaritans held a joint engagement day at Luton Railway Station, raising awareness of the dangers on and around the railway and educating the general public on how they can keep themselves safe, as well as promoting Samaritans services.
The event was arranged by Hayley Manners (Community Safety Manager) and was joined by Ryan Morris (Sgt BTP), Julie Evans (Programme Manager), Claire Taylor (GTR), Sara Turner (GTR), James Edwards (REO), Hilton Matereke (Station Manager) and Samaritans.
Engagement at the event was positive and provided an opportunity to raise awareness of the joint rail industry and Samaritans campaign Small Talk Saves Lives . Small Talk Saves Lives empowers the public to trust their instincts and gives them the confidence to start a conversation if they think someone needs help in railway stations and other public settings – small talk is no small thing, it saves lives.
