On 14 July, the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) published their Annual Report of Health and Safety Performance on Britain’s Railways for 2019/20.
For the first time, due to Covd-19 restrictions the report was launched virtually to over 100 stakeholder guests. This year’s report stresses that safety across Britain’s railways has improved over the last 12 months and that it remains one of the safest in Europe for passengers. That notwithstanding though there was a clear message that the industry could not become complacent and significant challenges still lay ahead particularly around staff wellbeing and the impact of climate change.
Within the report was specific mention of the industry’s Suicide Prevention activities. ORR stated that despite an increase in suicides for 2019/20, they were confident that if it were not for the industry efforts, this figure would have been higher.
