Recognising the need for new signage, Nic Dooris, Community Safety Manager for Kent, designed new look safety messaging to make a change.
Nic Dooris said “I have been working as a community safety manager for Network rail for over 15 years now.
I have always thought that signs don’t tell you the real risk of railway trespass. If you advise people the risk they take could kill them, I think people would pay more attention.
Not everyone knows how to use a train station, I have always thought that train stations should have signs like you have at building sites, advising people how to use them.
I designed the new posters with three boxes that explain train tracks are always switched on, trains are always running and what to do when you need help. Educating people on something simple like how to find help if they want to retrieve items dropped onto the track can make a real difference.’
These signs are now being utilised across the network, with South Western Railway rolling them out across a number of locations.
