As their charity of the year, Paddy Power Betfair (PPB) staff selected Samaritans. Following scrutiny by the Samaritans Executive Board the partnership was recently announced, drawing criticism from certain quarters.
The partnership involves activities such as fundraising, corporate donation and volunteering, and despite the criticism, both organisations feel there will be a positive impact from the partnership.
The insight and expertise Samaritans can provide will help PPB reduce gambling harm, improve how they support vulnerable customers, as well as helping to develop and strengthen its policies in this area.
PPB are committed to improving their training and interventions, along with introducing signposting for support and gave Samaritans the assurance needed that working together will deliver clear benefits for those in distress or crisis.
Gambling is one of Samaritans agreed strategic influencing focuses and by partnering with PPB, they are able to gain a greater understanding of gambling related harm, whilst increasing the awareness of its services with a group of highly vulnerable individuals, who they may otherwise not have reached.
